Thursday Night

It was a long rough day today.

after I called the President of the hospital yesterday I wrote a letter about how unhappy we were and that we were thinking about moving MikeyD out of there she asked me to give them another chance.

I told her  I would like to have a meeting and get some answers as to why MikeyD was casted when he was walking when he came in usually it is the opposite I told her no one could answer my questions, we set up a meeting and went over what we expected I sat down in one of the nicest conference rooms on top of the hospital with the top people and told them why I was so mad and what I expected from here on forward, I then met with the therapists and went over all the details. All day today everyone was so responsive and helpful,

tonight Cookie Paczos came to visit in case you don't know  who Cookie is she is our neighbor and very close friend more like family than a friend she has known little MikeyD since he was born and is very close to him. When she first got there he was fine after a little while he was in extreme pain again someone said we will take the cast off tomorrow and have it checked out Cookie started yelling tomorrow is too late. Then the nurse came and said do you want MikeyD to have his pain killer now or wait until later because Moya wanted him to have it later so he would sleep better. Cookie had to go to the bathroom  when Cookie was gone the great nurse Margaret came in again and said to you want me to give him his pain medicine now and I said no please hold off as soon as Cookie gets back I am going to cut this cast off and she said are you really  going to do that and I said yes I am she smiled and said  I will help you she got her tool out and by the time Cookie came back we were cutting off the cast Cookie joined in right away we were holding his leg up and cutting off the cast before you knew it we were having a cast cutting party. Then the charge nurse came in to see if Margaret could work over time tomorrow and she said what are you doing and she said Dad wanted to cut the cast off and I am helping him then the charge nurse joined in as soon as we got it off the head nurse Connie said you got this just in time what happened was it was too  tight and was cutting off his circulation had we not cut the cast off  he would have had some major problems. I am really mad at myself for not taking that cast off on Wednesday when I knew I should of I little my little boy suffer for more than another day by not doing it.

Please keep Praying and Posting for MikeyD.

Saint Anne I beg of you to stand vigil over Mighty MikeyD . Heal Mighty MikeyD soothe Mighty MikeyD, console Mighty MikeyD and bless Mighty MikeyD keep each of us under your protection and guide us to our good Jesus our God Jesus he will understand Me. he will know how to help I will rest in his Mercy Amen.

  1. Taking off the cast was the right thing to do. Micky D was in agony, after we took it off it was amazing to see the relief in his face. Mike is understating how bad his leg was. Thank God we took it off. Mikey D your in my prayers everyday along with the family. Hopefully you had a restful night sleep and mommy too. All our love.

  2. MikeyD you will be able to write a book about your adventures! So glad the cast is off. Sean took his own cast off over the weekend with a steak knife. It wasn't as painful as yours but annoying. You are getting better every day and can't wait until you are completely healed! Keep the faith!

  3. I am utterly sick after reading this post and the prior one. I am in shock that a facility suposedly so highly rated could exhibit not only such callousness but actual incompetency verging on complete negligence. If you and Moya were not the most amazing, confident, involved, strong parents, this hospital would have harmed Mikey instead of helping him. You gave them another chance and they did not take it to help Mikey, they left the cast on. There are other rehab facilities, there have to be, and I will pray you get guidance to THE RIGHT place to keep Mikey on the road to recovery. If anything ever happens to one of my children, I want Mike and Moya to oversee his care. Hey, tell Mikey the MidMonmouth team needs him back---Greg, Reuben and Jim are wonderful, and Scott is having a ball, but Marlboro killed us last night!! :-) Hoping Friday is a MUCH better day, Paige Benigno

  4. What kind of medical worker puts a cast on a child so tight it could cause him to need an amputation? And what kind of doctor refuses to remove it because the quack to put it in place was the one to make that call? Mike, you could earn your doctorate by the end of this ordeal, Mikey is blessed to have such a vigilant Dad!

  5. Mike- Don't look back, look forward ... please don't kick yourself for not taking the cast off sooner (but the hospital staff who improperly put the casts on MikeyD should certainly be held accountable). We pray and hope that you will now receive the highest level of medical support and that Mighty MikeyD will grow stronger every day! And I especially pray for less pain, may all the pain go away ... please Dear God.

  9. hospital admins are just that--admins--business people--trust your instincts with this one--the Irish are skeptical by nature and experience, and I would say you were right on to feel the care is subpar--Margaret saved that place from getting sued up the wazoo by you guys for a ridiculous move on their part--do not trust the suits--trust yourselves--move him back--you might not have a nurse with so much common sense next time--

  13. Hang in there Doherty Family, things will turn for the better soon. Prayers and good vibes from Middletown are plentiful for sure, but also consider 7:30 pm novena at St Peter the Apostle Church near the hospital on Somerset Ave. On April 30th, my brother's surgeon came out of the OR and basically told us there was nothing more they could do for him except try to keep him alive as long as possible because his colon cancer had spread too far. My other brother (churchgoer), my sister (not a churchgoer) and I (I do what I can, Lord) went to the novena that night, desperate and distraught. Two weeks later the doctor told us that all of the removed lymph nodes were cancer-free and that he was now going for the cure! After a second surgery 2 weeks ago, we are almost there.

God is mighty and righteous! He will help Mikey and your whole family...and sometimes that help comes in the form of strength to kick some butt and take phone numbers. He works in mysterious ways...sometimes through cast-cutting power tools!

    Peace,

    Ted
