Thursday Night

MikeyD had a long busy day today.

The ambulance took him to CHOP to see Dr. Vetter and she said it is OK to take off the brace from the surgery that was wrapped around his chest to tie his left arm down around his side.

he is still not allowed to raise it above 90 or pull and lift anything on the left side. We hope that now his left side will get stronger and that he will feel some relief from being tied down. for those of you that seen it you will understand what I am talking about. they also did a genetic testing that takes six weeks for the results to come back and they all came back negative. As the doctor said he had a better chance of getting hit by lightning there is nothing wrong with his heart and never was. The doctors have been telling me

At this point it seems that he was dehydrated his potassium level was low and his electrolytes were off which caused a false alarm that set off an arrhythmia. I have been doing a lot of research and studying about this and have found out that dehydration has caused something like this in children that did not have any heart defect or disease and hope by  parents and coaches reading this that we can prevent something like this from happening to another child again.

Ever danced so hard you thought you were going to pass out from exhaustion? Run so far or exercised so much that your heart was pounding in your chest as you dripped with sweat? Maybe you spent all day in the hot, summer sun and never drank any water?
What do these have in common? They can all cause sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) due to dehydration and loss of important electrolytes. SCA occurs when the heart begins contracting irregularly due to erratic electrical impulses and blood is not able to pump at its normal rate and rhythm. Once your heart stops pumping blood, you die. Little MikeyD was gone and came back. I know that MikeyD dumped a bucket of water over his head at the half and he was over heated at that time he was already dehydrated. Please keep an eye on your children playing any kind of sports in the heat if child goes for water because they are thirsty at a practice or a game it is too late.
Cardiac arrest has been in the news over the last few years especially in young athletes practicing in the heat of summer without adequate water and electrolyte replacement.
Let us pray that something like this never happens to another child again.

if you can come and visit MikeyD this weekend it will be greatly appreciated. He loves the company.

Let us pray for MikeyD to speak to us again.

Keep the faith and believe in miracles.
Please keep praying and posting.

  1. Glad to hear that the brace is off. They say that different parts of the brain control different sides of the body (right?). So perhaps as MikeyD starts to rehab his left arm he'll stimulate a new part of the brain that needs to connect to reactivate his speech. We will continue to pray for less pain and more words!! He has surpassed so many doctors' predictions --- keep it up Mighty MikeyD!!! We love you and pray for you constantly!

  2. Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, You who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from the darkness, I ask You now to send forth Your miracle-working power to heal our MikeyD. You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by speaking a simple command, You empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.

You sent forth Your life-giving power to all those in need, including those You raised from the dead.

I ask You to send forth Your healing power into MikeyD's body and give MikeyD the strength to fight this illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

  3. Glad to hear the brace is off. May seem like a small step but to Michael I am sure it is huge being able to move a little better. I am glad we got to see him on such a great day. All that he has been through and he still had that big contagious smile. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers every day. I know MikeyD will get better and hopefully quick. You have such a wonderful family.
Love and prayers - the Glenn's.
