Thursday Night August 15th

Mighty MikeyD went back to CHOP last week for his check up with Dr. Vetter and some testing of his defibrillator and pace maker. MikeyD went through a stress test as well, Thank God everything checked out great. Mikeyd passed the stress test his heart is perfect all the damge to the left ventical from the Sudden Cardiac Arrest is healing, MikeyD's Defibrillator had no activity his little heart is healing almost as if it had never stopped beating. Little MikeyD's heart was damaged from the SCA. The big scar on his chest is looking better. It is hard to believe we are approaching the 1st anniversary of that tragic night when he was playing basketball and went down on the court. Dr Vetter said MikeyD is still dehydrated and needs to have at least 10 glasses of water  a day or a mix of water, Gatorade, or some other fluid.  Today is Dr. Vetter's Birthday. Happy Birthday from all of us I know you enjoy reading the blog. I spoke to Dr. Vetter about coming to Middletown to screen the kids she agreed. we are organizing it now unfortunately it will take us six months to plan it out there is a lot involved. We will be offering screenings to all kids in the middle school and high schools not just athletes but all kids.
Imagine if we save just one kid and one family from this tragedy ? I know we will save more than one but even just one is a major victory. I do not want one more child or their family to suffer from SCA ever again. The MikeyD recovery fund is also working on getting AED’s all over Middletown especially at outdoor sporting events to make Middletown safer for everyone especially our children of Middletown.
Can you be sure an emergency rescue worker will always be three minutes away?
Sure enough to risk your life on it?
the only chance a sudden cardiac arrest victim has for resuscitation is a shock from a defibrillator as soon as possible. According to the AHA (American Heart Association), defibrillation should be administered within the first three minutes of cardiac arrest.
We all know the Mighty MikeyD story !!!
But he is a true Miracle one of the only known survivors after being down so long. All the Doctors say he is a very strong young boy.
Let’s all work together to help spread the word of the Mighty MikeyD Heart screening from CHOP coming to Middletown to help save all our children.
Right now it looks like it will be sometime in February I will keep you posted.
Please send the link to this blog to everyone you know with children the more we reach the better. I am hoping we can screen at least 500 kids. We had 141,000.00 hits since I posted 2 weeks ago. Let me know if you are interested in helping me to the spread the word for the screenings.
MIkeyD is getting stronger every week but he misses the interaction and friendship of playing sports on teams like he use to do so we are going to plan some more wiffle ball games in the fall.
MikeyD also misses being at Bayshore with his old friends.
Please pray that MikeyD will one day leave the Children’s hospital and return to Middletown and go back to Bayshore with friends where he belongs.
We Believe in Miracles !

Please keep praying and posting for MikeyD.

I send the blog entries to lots of people. What is the exact name & address of The MikeyD Recovery Fund in case some people are interested in it?
So many people have said that you, MikeyD and your family have done such a great thing by getting the information out about Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I’m sure that you’ve already had a positive impact & saved kids. When my Presbyterian Church in Westfield had Vacation Bible School this summer during that brutal heat wave, they had bottles of water available for all of the kids.
God bless you, MikeyD, your family and all of MikeyD’s doctors. He is a miracle and an inspiration.
    Love,
    Diane

I'm so sorry we have been out of the loop... We want to help spread the word as well as get together soon. This whole story starting with MikeyD and continuing thru to Dr Vetter screening is a miracle. I took the kids last yr to a cardiologist on rt 35 and it cost $800 no deductible would kick in till after the appt so if we could get kids that needed the test faster what a miracle that would be!

  11. I thank God every day that we are coming up on an anniversary that can be celebrated by Mighty MikeyD ... The Miracle in Sneakers!! Thank you Lord for the dedication and hard work of Dr. Vetter (belated H.B.D.!) and all the others who never gave up. And what an inspirational FIGHTER Mighty MikeyD is! In those early days there were gifts of miracles that were prayers answered, but even now he continues the long process of recovery and it takes tons of strength and focus and MikeyD does it all without getting down! What a great kid!! Bayshore will be even better when MikeyD is back in that familiar setting!!!

Since a couple of comments have asked about helping out with donations to the 501c(3) nonprofit Fund, and since I hounded you for it, I'm going to share the information I have:

    MikeyD Recovery Fund
    PO Box 252
    Atlantic Highlands, NJ 07716

The Contact person is Seamus Doherty, email eires32@nyc.rr.com .

A lot of employers have corporate matching gift programs. Bob's does, but I'll need to get the EIN (tax id#) to get them to contribute -- Seamus will be sending that number to me shortly. I will share the # on this blog when I get it!

We will continue to pray and send positive energy. And tell MikeyD I've got the box of brownie/cookie mix ready ... I HAVE to make you guys a batch to celebrate the many miracles of Sept. 7th!

  12. My son and I had a great visit with MikeyD a few weeks ago. First we took him to the dentist and when he got out his sister asked him which dental technician he had... "The mean one?" she said... Mikey replied "No" then with a devilish smile "The hot one." Then we went to the mall where Mikey picked out a cool new pair of sneakers...very cool...so cool, that my son now wants a pair : (
After our shopping spree we hit Buffalo Wild Wings where Mikey downed a dozen wings like a real champ. He farted the whole way home in my new truck. Just like old times : )

MikeyD gets better and better every time we see him.
Keep up the good work Mikey. We are all so very proud of you.

    Uncle Ken and Will

  13. OK, I got the Tax Id number for the MikeyD Recovery Fund. It is:

Thank you Kenny for that story above. I have seen that devilish smile and that sparkle in MikeyD's eyes - they give me great hope that with prayers and love and lots of work and support, MikeyD will be back to doing all those fun things that a 13 year old should be doing!! And with a little financial help, maybe we can get the dang bill collectors to stop bothering the Doherty Family when they sit down to eat supper!
