Labor Day Updated for screening

It is hard to believe this time last year Mighty MikeyD was a Happy healthy 12 year old boy. We had just came back from our vacation in Ireland. For Moya Julia, Ciara, MikeyD and myself our lives could not have been better. Little did we know a few days later our lives would change forever. None of us will ever be the same. MikeyD was looking forward to returning to Bayshore as a 7th grader and starting back to sports as usual. He left as a 6th grader and has never returned.  We had just picked up his fall baseball uniform and basketball practice had just started up again. He was back from vacation doing all the things he loved to do play sports with his friends. We still cannot believe we are only a few days away from that very hot humid tragic  Friday night of September 7th one year ago when little MikeyD went down on the basketball court. The Miracle in sneakers has come a long way since that night. We believe it was from all the prayers and support from all of you our family, friends, prayer warriors and the great Middletown community. Thank God Julia and Ciara are his guardian Angels they are so good to him.
MikeyD   still has long way to go and  needs all the prayers and support he can get. Next Friday night September 6th at 8 PM we will be taking MikeyD to the healing mass at St. Mary’s where so many of you prayed for MikeyD last year which we know  healed a little boy who was paralyzed and could not talk for months. I hope you can join us at the mass on Friday night. None of us will ever know why MikeyD had to go through this, but  everyone around him knows that the Lord has a reason that will be revealed to us one day. Also I was speaking to Dr.Vetter regarding the MikeyD screening that we will be bringing to Middletown to screen all the kids we can screen for heart and dehydration problems. She told me to see if we had any nurses or technicians that can help us. This will keep the cost down for the funds we need to raise. If any of you know a nurse or a technician who would be willing to volunteer their time at the screening please let me know. On Saturday  afternoon September 7th which will be the one year anniversary from that tragic night we are planning a wiffle ball game for MikeyD since he can no longer play team sports which he misses it makes him feel good to have some friends around and play a little game we had a few games before and it was great. we played parents against the kids one day and that was great. I wish I had more time we could of had a little tournament. We are hoping we can have a few games on Saturday please let us know if you can join us to help MikeyD the more the better. The Doherty family would like to thank each and every one of you for all your prayers and support ! We could  never  made it this far without all of you. A great community that we are proud to be a part of. The green ribbons are still standing strong in our neighborhood they have survived the worst hurricane we have ever seen just another symbol. Dear God please let MikeyD keep coming back to us.
***Mary had a few good questions***
the Screening will be sometime in January or February as soon I have the exact date I will let everyone know ASAP.
The nurses will just need to do the Blood pressure.
The Techs we need are ECG and Echocardiogram techs.
If not CHOP will provide.
The wiffle ball game for MikeyD recovery Celebration will be Saturday at our house 3 pm we will make MAC n Cheese for the kids with hot dogs on the grill.

Hope to see you then.

We believe in Miracles !!!

Please keep praying and posting for MikeyD !!!

Minute by minute it had been a good year, One filled with one miracle after another. You like many have asked why Mikey. I don't know if we will ever know. Truthfully if really doesn't matter. Maybe it was because Mikey is and was so strong, Strong enough to fight back. Another child might have or did die and nothing would have changed. We needed to change.
Mikey's life has changed. So have the kids who got tested and found out they had heart issues. They are alive because of Mikey, and your family. Your commitment to prevent this from happening again has been enormous. We played rec basketball with and against you. With you was more fun! LOL The only thing that stopped those games was lightning! Now we know better because of YOU and Mikey. Soccer games that had to be 30 minutes halves, have now found a way to take a minute to give the kids water breaks in the heat. Kids are not considered wimps because the heat is just too much for them. All of this has happened because of you , Mikey and your family. We need to THANK YOU!
Was it a huge price to pay for your family? Yes it was huge! Can you put a price on the life of a child. I can't. I hope most people agree. Lives have been saved because of one little boy.
As I sit here today and look how far Mikey has come in only 1 year, I know that Mikey will continue to receive those well deserved miracles. The miracles that have caused us all to stop, look and listen. All because of one little boy filled with courage. He is a miracle in sneakers.Plus a HERO in sneakers too!
Prayers for another 365 days of miracles!
    Love to you all
    Linda, Mike & Mary

  2. You are so right Mike, the Mighty MikeyD story is full of mysteries - THANK GOD it is also full of miracles! I took some time to go back and read some of the posts from Sept/Oct/Nov 2012. Those were times of huge uncertainty and frustration. Your athletic kid endured so much pain and it seemed like he would never be able to sit up or walk again. And MikeyD still had not talked as of your Nov. 8th post ... but by Nov. 10th he was starting to! (2 months without your child's words, I can not imagine that)
I love what Linda wrote above! She is right-the whole Middletown community is safer because many coaches and parents are now aware of Sudden Cardiac Arrest. And with everything you have on your plate, you are still giving your time to spread the word and bring in professionals to screen our kids for heart conditions and dehydration. Coach Mike, I want to thank YOU and your ENTIRE family for being such giving citizens of this community!
MikeyD - keep setting goals and fighting for them!! You are AMAZING and INSPIRATIONAL! I hope you know that you have the prayers and the love of many, many people! (I know many people read and pray, but just don't feel comfortable posting here)
I have the Healing Mass on my calendar! We have football (practice and a game) on Saturday, but I'll drop off some brownies! :-)
I wear my Mighty Mike bracelet every day! And the green bow, that narrowly survived S.S. Sandy, is still up!
GOD BLESS YOU and the Doherty Family as you continue your recovery!
    With love and prayers,
Barbara, Bob, Robert and Allie Cassin

    2. Correction: as of the date of this post, the fund is nonprofit, but it is not a 501(c)(3) fund. I apologize for any confusion. {and Seamus ... I'm mailing the check back! I wish I could get Prudential to match it, but even if they won't ... Bob and I still feel strongly that this is a cause worth supporting!}

  4. Praise God!! We REJOICE as we know that God heard our cries and answered our prayers and we ALL see the Miracle in MikeyD.

Our Healing Mass is this Friday. It starts with songs at 7:30 and Mass will start at 8pm here in Mary Mother of God Church at Saint Mary's. Please come and pray for continued Healings for Mighty MikeyD.

Mike and Moya, you have brought so many people to prayer and so many people have been inspired by MikeyD and his year journeying back. His pain and his struggles have brought us to tears and his healings and Miracles that we were able to witness through your posting and sharing your story with us has brought us closer to God. We cry with Joy too at all of the Healings we witnessed. Thank your for inspiring us and showing us the LOVE OF GOD here on earth.

See all of you at the Healing Mass!!
