Super Bowl Sunday

Mighty  MikeyD had a rough week at the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside and he asked me on Thursday  Dad how much longer do I have to be in Mountainside?  I told him I wish I had an answer for you. I really felt really bad Because of the Cognitive rehabilitation it could be a year or more. He said I really want the Bayshore teachers to come here and teach me. That night I took Ciara to her travel Basketball game it was at St. Rose of Lima in Freehold. The last time I was there was around this time last year with MikeyD and Chris Price they were playing in the Monmouth County Parochial All-Star Basketball game. As I was sitting there waiting for the game to start I got a flashback and could see both of them clearly in my mind running up and down the court in that All-Star game it seemed so real. I got all choked up and could not stop thinking about it. When I snapped out of it all I could do was hope and pray that we will be able to see MikeyD run again someday. It makes me wonder if he remembers anything about that time of his  life ?
Moya  got a big hug from Peggy Dunn Friday night at the healing mass thank you Peggy for everything.
MikeyD was invited to Anthony Amodeo’s birthday party on Saturday he went and had a great time thank you so much for inviting him. He also got to see the brownie lady Barbara Cassin another one of his big supporters.
MikeyD is really enjoying his puppy peanut. Most of you were correct the puppy is a lot of work. Today Peanut MikeyD, Moya, Julia and Ciara are at puppy training class. I hope it works ! I really do think the puppy was the best thing for him right now it is great to see MikeyD’s face when he is sitting there with Peanut in his arms.
We Believe in Miracles !!!
Please keep praying and Posting.

  1. Mikey D is coming back 100% I believe this with all my heart. The prayers are still coming and everything I see him there is more and more improvement. Was not long ago he was helpless, GOD granted a miracle and returned him to all of us. You may not see it Mike because you see him everyday. When you let a week or two go by, then stop to see him I witness him getting stronger and better. IT's still going to take time but he's coming back. Stay strong and soon you will be outside pitching balls again.

Mike, it will get better. Mikey has beaten all the odds so far. Remember when your prayers were to just hear his voice again! Remember also the stupid casts that you had to cut off yourself. They are all memories now! Maybe you could arrange to have a teacher for Bayshore work with Mikey just a little. Even just the smallest amount of time. It might just give Mikey the connection that he needs. So many people want to help . I'm sure they would jump at the idea! They are the people that know the REAL Mikey! Sometimes that is all that it takes to ease the frustration!

Hi Mike, Yes it will be a long road but Mikey is on that road to recovery and he is such a courageous and strong adventurer that we know he will be successful. He will make it and so will you and your family; your love and strong family will and compassion will see this through. Looking forward to spring and to hearing that Mikey is outside playing "go fetch" with Peanut. Sheila

  5. Big Mike,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and fears with us. Mikey D's recovery is like the championship game. You have to keep cool, stay focused, move your feet, follow through on your shot, rebound, meet the pass, don't reach in, it is a lot of work. The struggle, the pain, the doubts, all the hard work...it all pays off. Don't forget to take yourself out of the game for a few minutes to regroup. Lean on your team which is God, your family, and friends (and now you have a mascot Peanut). You've done a great job Mike. Hang in there.

  6. Chris and Mikey WILL run together again on the basketball court, just not THIS season... and you will be running on the sidelines coaching!! It was months ago when I told you to BELIEVE IN MIRACLES THEY HAPPEN EVERY DAY....and they have happened for us. Through faith and prayer the lord has granted us many miracles. Almost too many to count and some we aren't even aware of!!! The fact that Mikey wants to get back to Bayshore is wonderful, it probably is an indication that they're working him hard at mountainside. After basketball season ends Chris and I would love to stop by to say hi and meet Peanut. Stay in the present and one day at a time sweet Jesus...one day at a time.......keeping the faith and still believing in miracles....

  7. Hey Mike - I can not begin to tell you how wonderful it was to see MikeyD on Saturday! It was great to visit with Moya too! But this was the first time that I had seen MikeyD since the Skype link on the day of the Bayshore 3on3. Thank God for the Miracle in Sneakers!! He will have to re-learn a ton of things and that will take time, but your son was listening to the 3 Barbaras and his Mom talking ... and I could see him taking it all in ... his neurotransmitters are firing like crazy in that wonderfully handsome head of his!! But that was not what delighted me the most. To me the most amazing thing that I observed was when he was pretending to battle with Sully over a plate of brownies that Barbara A. made. Mike - I was floored - MikeyD was so FAST with his hands, he reached out and grabbed his buddy as Sully was starting to make his getaway with the goods. This is the kid who a few months ago couldn't speak and couldn't move his arms?!?!! The Lord has answered so many of our prayers and you and Moya and the girls are such wonderful support for him. Truly INSPIRATIONAL!! I know in my heart and my head that Mighty MikeyD is going to continue to get better and better. He'll be back at Bayshore and complaining about all the homework before you know it!!
We continue to pray and send tons of love to MikeyD and the entire Doherty family!

  9. Michael is a miracle in progress. There is no doubt in my mind that he will be running down that court again. We really miss him at Bayshore, but know he is where he needs to be for now. Keep the faith and miracles will continue to happen.
