Tuesday Night

A dedication to Albert Martin
I received a call yesterday regarding Albert Martin see article below this is what happened to MikeyD and everyone there at the time thought he had a seizure at first. I reached out to Dr.Vetter right away  and spoke to her regarding this tragedy and I have reached out to get in touch with the family.Alberts sister should at leat be tested right away. Some testing of Albert should be done so the family may know the cause and other kids playing basketball might be saved. This happens a lot more to kids playing basketball every year than you think just ask Dr.Vetter.
As soon as MikeyD is back on his feet I am going on a crusade and going to work with Dr. Vetter to make sure all parks where kids play basketball have an AED.
I would also like to see a law where kids playing sports have to at least get an EKG to look for an arrhythmia.
Even though it would not have helped in MikeyD’s case the EKG will help save a lot of other children.
 I am also begging all of you again if you have kids playing sports especially Basketball this is much more common to basketball players please have them tested start with a simple EKG and also have them tested for Dehydration as well.
This story breaks my heart.
 As reported by the Newark Star-Ledger, Red Bank (N.J.) Regional High senior Albert Martin, a starting forward on the school's basketball team, collapsed during his team's Monday afternoon preseason scrimmage against Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.) High. Martin had reportedly been sitting on the bench when a timeout was called and the forward was told to get ready to return to the game. He took a sip of Gatorade, his knees buckled and he collapsed to the floor.
A school trainer who was on-site rushed to Martin's side and attempted but ultimately failed to revive him. Paramedics who arrived shortly thereafter were similarly unsuccessful, and the teenager was pronounced dead at Riverview Hospital within hours of his initial collapse.
"We knew it was bad right away," Scott Martin, the Red Bank head basketball coach (who is of no relation to the deceased) told the Star-Ledger. "His eyes rolled to the back of his head, he was having some sort of seizure."
Though there has been no official announcement about Martin's cause of death, it seems highly likely to be connected to a heart arrhythmia or another heart abnormality. Martin's mother, Tracy Dixon, confirmed that her son had never received any type of heart screening.

 May he rest in Peace !!!
God bless his Family.
please have your kids tested.

Friday Night

The MikeyD 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Bayshore yesterday was a great event.
MikeyD was in the hospital in the bed with the laptop and everyone at Bayshore got to see  him via Skype.
My family and I would like to thank everyone involved.
Tonight I told MikeyD that a lot of people were praying for him again at the healing mass. We said our prayers at 8 PM  and when we were done he looked at me and said please tell everyone at the healing mass I wish I could be there with them. Moya was at the healing mass tonight and she called me and said it was very uplifting and spiritual. Peggy she asked me to let you know she was sorry she did not get to speak with you .It really is a miracle this little boy who barely escaped death 3 months ago was gone, came back and a few weeks ago he could not even swallow,eat or speak can now look at me and say please tell everyone I wih I could be there with them. Over 97% of people who suffer a traumatic brain injury like MikeyD's do not recover like this. I know it is because thousands of you have come together and have been praying for him we cannot thank all of you enough. MikeyD is really getting strong now he started using his left hand pretty good now last week  he was moving his wheel chair forward and back with one hand in the same spot I asked him what are you doing you are only moving back and forth a little bit with one hand and you are not going anywhere he said I am working on building the  strength in my left arm tonight he is able to go all around the hospital in his wheel chair using both arms and making turns he feels independent being able to roll the halls without having to have someone push him around. When the nurse came into to give him his shots tonight she asked him where do you want it they move them around from left leg to right leg and in his stomach because of the bruises tonight he told her to give him the needle in the stomach she asked  him doesn’t that hurt a lot to get the needle  in the stomach ? he looked at her and said yes it does but I just take it like a man. every day now MikeyD is making progress and the doctors I speak with are amazed at his recovery he is doing things that Moya and I were told he would never be able to do.
God Bless all of you for your continued  prayers for MikeyD and continued  support for my family !
Keep the faith We believe in Miracles ! (we are witnessing them)
Please keep Praying and posting.
Unfailing Prayer to St. Anthony
"Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints."
O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, you love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me A Full Recovery for MikeyD that he will be able to run and play with his friends again one day like he use to. The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles.
O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours. Amen.

Wednesday Night

MikeyD got his new casts put on again this Monday. now they are saying he will be in casts for another three weeks that will now be a total of ten weeks in casts.
We are hoping that will be the end of the casts for good, We feel so bad for him because every week he thinks it is going to be the last week in casts. MikeyD is eating good and has gained Back three pounds of the twenty six pounds that he lost. He is talking a little bit more now but his voice is still very low. Today MikeyD had a great visit with coach Greg he delivered two great presents to MikeyD  one from Kansas and one from Rhode Island. It was two signed basketballs that all the players and coaches signed. Then MikeyD and coach Greg started passing the ball around to each other MikeyD even showed coach Greg his form for the 3 point shot it was really nice and made MikeyD  very happy.
Tomorrow at the Bayshore 3 on 3 they are going to have a Skype connection set up to the hospital so the kids in school at the event can speak to MikeyD live in the hospital and he will also be able to watch the event.
They will also be posting on the blog at that time for him. Today from the hospital I tested the connection with Mr. Botti and Donna who were at the school.
I plan on being at the event. Ciara’s team is the  turtles and Brendan’s team is the hoops I did it again,
I need to cheer for both of them. I look forward to seeing a lot of you tomorrow.
Keep the faith we believe in miracles.
Please keep praying and posting.

A Post from Bayshore School

MikeyD 3 v 3 Basketball Tournament this Thursday Nov. 29

On September 7th the Bayshore Staff received word that one of our students was stricken with sudden cardiac arrest while playing basketball with his travel team. He was airlifted to CHOP in Philadelphia and remained in critical condition. Doctors raced against time to save this sweet boy. His parents and sisters sat vigil while he was in an induced coma.

He has since been transferred to Robert Wood Johnson and improving “slow and steady” as they say-but he has a long, long recovery ahead.

Please join the students and staff at Bayshore as we come together to honor this brave boy and his family. Bayshore Middle School will be hosting a 3 v 3 basketball tournament on November 29th both gyms at Bayshore Middle School. The event will take place from 3-5 pm. Admission to this event is $5. Shirts will be available for $10. Come watch thirty-nine different student teams such as The Spaztastics vs. The Smiling Bananas fight to win the trophy!

We would like to thank Party Fair in Middletown, Costco in Hazlet, Beacon Awards in Middletown, the Middletown Teacher's Association, the MYAA and Zeek's Tees in Atlantic Highlands for helping to sponsor this event.

Saturday Night

What a great Thanksgiving. Even though we had our family Thanksgiving dinner in a hospital it was really nice. The Auditorium which is the room we had booked was just perfect. We would like to thank everyone for coming. My sister Diane had the great idea to have all the kids wear their shooting 3’s for Mighty MikeyD shirts. Mighty MikeyD was so happy to see all his cousins that he wanted to get out of the wheelchair we took him out and he started crawling around on the floor to be with his cousins that is also how we got the family photo above of all the cousins. The Fighter as he is known around here and CHOP is really determined to get moving again he was wearing basketball shorts and even though his knees were red and getting torn up he did not want to go back in the wheelchair. Uncle Seamus picked MikeyD up stood behind him to hold him up and even had him take a few steps walking with the casts on, it is hard to beat a kid that never gives up. God bless Mighty MikeyD the fighter !!!!

Then on Friday night Mikeyd had a great visit from the AWG group about 25 members showed up for a huddle it was AWGsome. Thank you guys for coming to see MikeyD did you see the glow on his face ? It really meant a lot to him you guys really made him so happy and we all had a lot of fun.

Prayer for today.
In our culture today, people are used to getting things right away. We’ve been programmed for immediacy. People don’t like to wait. But the scripture says, “It’s through faith and patience that we inherit God’s promises.” Sometimes, it’s easy for people to have faith. We declare, God, I believe I’m going to accomplish my dreams. God, I believe I’m going to overcome this obstacle. But, it gets harder when you have to walk in patience. When you pray, can you say, “God, I not only believe in big things for little MikeyD, but I trust Your timing. God, I’m not going to get discouraged that a full recovery doesn’t happen for little MikeyD immediately. I’m not going to give up because it’s taken a week, a month or five years. I know the set time is already in little MikeyD’s future, so I’m going to wait with faith and patience because I know that you have a full recovery  on the way for little MikeyD.”
Remember, through faith and patience we inherit His promises. Trust His Word, trust His timing and trust that God has little MikeyD’s recovery  on its way!

Help Me Thanksgiving Day Prayer

O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.

Tuesday Night.

Mighty MikeyD has 2 new cast on his legs. We hope and pray that they are the last cast he ever has on his legs again. They said they may have to do some more casting after this and will not know until they take them off next week. I personally know that  they made a big mistake here when they started this whole casting process this is a major setback. I will have a talk with them tomorrow and get all the detail as to why and do all that I can to see if they can come up with a better procedure for MikeyD to start to learn how to walk again. This casting was supposed to be for three weeks and now it has turned into six weeks and it has become a major setback. I spoke to another doctor today who agrees with me about this casting mess.  MikeyD started school today  here in the hospital. He will have to relearn a lot of things that he knew before it will not be easy . I asked him how he liked school and he said it was good.

I asked him if he had any homework and he gave me that big smile and shook his head No !!!

I hope everyone liked the picture of Mighty MikeyD from Friday night post I will try and put some more up as we post.

We want to get MikeyD a therapy dog  when he gets out of the hospital I heard that they help promote healing. Does anyone  know  anything about or what kind of dog will be a good therapy dog for MikeyD let me know I would appreciate it.

Most people have been posting on care pages it must be easier. Here is the link if you want to read some.

A Prayer for Today.

Our Lady of Knock, Queen of Ireland, you gave hope to our people in a time of distress and comforted them in sorrow. You have inspired countless pilgrims to pray with confidence to your divine Son, remembering His promise: "Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find". Help me to remember that we are all pilgrims on the road to heaven. Fill me with love and concern for my brothers and sisters in Christ, especially those who live with me. Comfort me when I am sick or lonely or depressed. Teach me how to take part ever more reverently in the holy Mass. Pray for me now, and at the hour of my death. Amen.
