Monday Night

Mighty MikeyD continues  fighting the fight every day !

He has  some good days and some bad days today was one of those bad days. MikeyD’s thoughts get distracted.

This weekend was a good one MikeyD went to Ciara's basketball game on Sunday and met Mr. Capro which was great. Mr. Capro got to see Ciara making 3's for MikeyD and the ref Richie who use to ref a lot of MikeyD's games got to see Ciara shooting 3's for MikeyD and both he and Mr.Capro said you are taking your brothers place on the court shooting them 3's Ciara had a big game Sunday.

This time last year MikeyD was playing basketball against Mr. Capro's team. You can see his post below from yesterday. Mr. Capro is also a teacher from Bayshore and a friend who use to have fun with MikeyD in the halls of Bayshore last year after the games. MikeyD was always quiet and did not like attention. Mr.Capro knew how to get him going. I wish I had a picture of Mr.Capro sitting with MikeyD yesterday at the game to post here.

Maybe we will come to your game next week bring the other MikeyD who is Mikey Dunn and a get a picture of you, Mikey Dunn and MikeyD for another win. When we came home from Ciara’s basketball game Mrs. Roditis came to visit MikeyD she is also a Bayshore teacher and a friend who has taught Julia, Ciara and MikeyD in her classes. Mrs. Roditis delivered a great present to MikeyD for his Birthday her sons signed a birthday card and gave him a baseball signed by David Wright.

David Wright is MikeyD’s favorite baseball player as most of you know from reading the blog and seeing MikeyD wearing his David Wright Jersey that Rocky and family sent him while he was still in CHOP. Mrs. Roditis had just watched MikeyD pitch against her son Michael’s team in June. MikeyD say’s thank you Mrs. Roditis for the signed David Wright baseball and the Ice Cream. Last but not least everyone is asking if MikeyD has a name for his new puppy. When we got the puppy from the rescue his name was Sir Lancelot  MikeyD has renamed him Peanut from Charlie Brown.

Let us hope and pray that MikeyD keeps getting Better and Better as uncle Ken said in his last post I was looking at a miracle. A miracle in sneakers . MikeyD is a true miracle.

Sunday Afternoon after MikeyD Birthday !

Mighty MikeyD got to celebrate another Birthday with us a true miracle Thank God.

MikeyD did get a little puppy dog for his Birthday but not the one in the picture before his birthday. MikeyD got her brother who is more red with a little white just like Sam in the picture of MikeyD with Sam and Sally the two pups look just like the two dogs. Some people say that the boys are easier to train we will see.

MikeyD really love this little puppy and the little puppy is good therapy for him.

If anyone has any information at all that will help MikeyD with training his puppy dog please post them here and let us know.

MIkeyD is back at The Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside  since Monday where he has started an intense therapy program of Speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy neuro rehabilitation and school. The days are very long. Our goal is to get MikeyD back to Middletown as soon as possible.

The fact that Mighty MikeyD is so determined to get better and come back to us is a major step. He continues to fight the fight every day and do things that amaze everyone. We pray that he will continue to improve and get better every day.

Mighty MikeyD is a true Miracle !

Thursday Night

MikeyD is waiting  for final approvals to start the Cognitive  rehabilitation program which includes PT, OT, speech therapy and neuro rehab. With MikeyD's Birthday fast approaching the Eli Manning ball will be real hard to beat. Mikeyd loves that gift it is really special to him. I mentioned that we were thinking of getting a dog for him. Like Price said are we really ready for that yet ? I did not think so. But Like Lori Murray said a rescue dog would be great. Well Julia has been looking nonstop for a dog for MikeyD's birthday and she found a rescue puppy not a dog. We filled out the application and have an appointment to meet the puppy tomorrow night at the shelter. A lot of people wanted this puppy. The picture above with MikeyD and the two dogs was taken just a few days before that tragic night when he went down, The two dogs belong to Moya's brother Mike and Sheila  in Ireland. They are Cavalier King Charles dogs and MikeyD loved them he said this is what he really wanted to get before he got sick. Julia found a Cavalier King Charles rescue puppy see the picture of it above, I know it will be real tough with a new puppy but I was thinking MikeyD has to learn everything from scratch again just like the puppy has to learn everything. Moya went out and bought some pre -school books for us to work with MikeyD on. Last night while I was working with him I asked him to trace out the letters of the alphabet in the book he looked at me and asked dad how do you hold a pencil ? I had to put the pencil in his hand and help him move his arm and hand to trace the letters. Maybe he and the puppy can help each other learn everything from scratch together. We hope and pray that these things will come back to MikeyD real soon. When they did one of the evaluations on him for the school they asked what are your goals he answered to be able to take care of myself  again one day, to be like my friends again and be able to play with them like I use to, and to return to Bayshore school again pretty deep. Please let us know what you think of the birthday present or if you have a better idea.

Sunday Night

I am really sorry about the misunderstanding from my  post on Thursday night. I wish I could take the post back I was going to edit it the point I was trying to make was that Mighty MikeyD is fighting hard to come back to us he is listening to everything around him and trying to understand it all. Even though he does not know right now that February come after January he is asking questions and trying to make sense of things. The other night when his sister Julia was putting him to bed he asked her Julia why did all  this happen to me?  I use to be able to do everything and now I am handicapped. I felt bad for him and Julia because none of us have an answer for his questions. I can tell one thing that signed football from Eli Manning has made his weekend and more all he is talking about is that football. Everyone  has come to see him this weekend got to see the ball and everyone who called him has heard about the ball. Tonight when I was tucking him into bed I asked him how does it feel to be in your own bed ? he said Dad it feels great and is much more comfortable than those hospital beds. I said yes it is and  you have all your things right here he said yes and I have my signed Eli Manning ball with me he keeps it on the night table right next to his bed, he said it is awesome isn't it ? truly amazing how a signed football from Eli Manning could make this little boys so proud and happy after all he has been through it has kind of made him  forget about all the problems he is fighting to overcome. When you see the smile on his face from this gift it makes us so happy. Thank you guys again for this special gift. MikeyD has a Birthday coming up on January 15th and Moya,Myself Julia and Ciara are wondering what we can get him for his Birthday that can make him half as happy as the signed Eli Manning football. Maybe a dog as we promised ?

Thursday Night

Mighty MikeyD had a great Christmas and New Year. he received a lot of presents, one of the best presents he received was today. Aunt Jean Marie came over and gave MikeyD a present from his basketball team and the Williamson’s. It was a football signed by Eli Manning. Mikeyd was so happy he was smiling like we had not seen him smile in a long time. He then  showed aunt Jean Marie his signed Basketballs from Kansas and Rhode Island now he thinks he is a hero. The funny thing is he has a favorite player in every sport his favorite football player is Peyton Manning he used to be a Colts fan and now he wears the Bronco's jersey he got for Christmas. He said do you believe that Eli Manning Peyton's brother signed this football for me. I told him we  are going to write a letter to Peyton and let him know that his brother Eli signed a football just for you and ask him to sign another one  for you. He wants me to order a special case to preserve his signed football. It is really amazing how happy that signed football gift made him feel today. Thank you so much. Tonight when we came into the family room we had a message on the answering machine. When I played the message it was from a collection company looking for money from something the insurance company would not pay for. MikeyD was sitting with me and he heard the message. He looked at me and asked me what that call was about. I said nothing it was just a call about insurance. MikeyD looked at me and said I am really sorry Dad . I asked him what are you sorry about? He said I am sorry that I went to the hospital I know it cost you millions of dollars. That broke my heart I was holding back tears  can you imagine after all the pain and suffering he is going through little MikeyD is telling me he is sorry that he went to the hospital. Even suffering from a TBI he is worried about us. God Bless Mighty MikeyD !!!

This little boy just makes us all fight harder for him every day by being so kind hearted . How could one little boy that suffered so much be worried about hospital bills and say I am sorry?
